Yuan Blue and White Dish

Period

Yuan dynasty, 14th century

Origin

Jingdezhen, Jiangxi

Dimensions

Diameter 21 cm

A dish painted in cobalt with a scrolling peony, the blue sunk into a slightly liquescent glaze. The unglazed foot ring shows the pale body. Yuan blue-and-white of this scale was made both for the domestic elite and for export; the drawing here is fluent, not crowded.
