Woodblock Print of a Snipe in Winter

Period

Meiji to Taisho period

Origin

Japan

Dimensions

Ōban format, 25 × 37 cm

A spotted snipe standing in snow among bare willow catkins, the sky a pale wash. The drawing is in the lineage of kachō-ga — bird and flower pictures — with the stillness of a cold morning. A print for the tea room as much as for the collector’s box.
